Q: Can I combine more than one photo for a portrait?
A: Absolutely!
I can take people or pets out of several photos and combine them into one portrait. It helps if the lighting is somewhat consistent and the people are in "poses" that will work together, but I will make do with whatever you have. I will show you a composite of the photographs before beginning the portrait.

Q: The picture that I want to use for a portrait is very small and poor quality. Does that matter?
A: The short answer: Yes, it does matter.
The long answer: I will make due. I am pretty good at making up the lost detail but in the end, the quality of the photo will be reflected in the portrait. One thing that will help is if you can provide additional, higher quality reference photos of the subject that I can use to "fill in the blanks."

I will not turn down a portrait just because you have a photo of poor quality. I know that if you want that particular photo turned into a work of art, it really means something to you. As long as we have an understanding, I will do my very best to make that happen for you.

Q: What is the turnaround for a portrait?
A: 1 to 3 weeks for single subject portraits.
Once the portrait is complete and you order the print, their is an additional 3 - 5 business days for delivery. The turnaround time for custom commissioned art and landscaped paintings will vary case by case.

Your actual turnaround time will be given once these details are worked out.

Here are approximate turnaround times for each style; one subject, chest & head:

  • Painter: 3 weeks

  • Line Art: 2 weeks

  • Charcoal: 1.5 weeks

Q: I don't like the background in the photo that I want to use. Can it be replaced?... And does that cost extra?
A: Yes, the background can be replaced.
If you have a photo of a different background that you like and want to use, then there is not extra cost. However, if you cannot find a photo and I have create a custom background, there will be additional charge. Charge will vary depending on the type of background desired.

Q: Who retains the copyright for my portrait?
A: YOU do.
Though everything is done on the computer, I try to treat these portraits as if they were traditional paintings. With a traditional painting their is but one copy, the original; and you own it. So that's how I do it. Once your portrait is complete and paid in full, you own all rights to your portrait. However, I do ask that you grant me permission to use your portrait for promotional purposes, but that is up to you.

With your paid commission, you receive several digital files for both printing and online purposes for NO extra cost. I keep copies of all of my completed portraits, so should you lose yours, you can retain another copy for a small "storage" fee.
